It will be the first time in the 103 editions of the history of the Volta a Catalunya that Viladecans will host a start or finish of the race, which makes the fifth stage a route with two unprecedented venues. Even so, the city of Baix Llobregat was already a protagonist in the route of the last edition with the dispute of an intermediate sprint of the 7th stage, where the Olympic champion Richard Carapaz led the race. It will be one of the two new arrivals of this edition together with the uphill finish in Queralt, in an edition with many novelties and historical returns.

Viladecans is the fourth most populated municipality in the Baix Llobregat region and the 19th in the whole of Catalonia.
