THE VOLTA CICLISTA A CATALUNYA IS A RACE ORGANISED BY THE VOLTA CICLISTA A CATALUNYA ASSOCIACIÓ ESPORTIVA (Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Sports Association)
The Volta a Catalunya has been held for more than a century thanks to the effort and organisation of the Cycling Section of the Unió Esportiva Sants (Sants Sports Union) and the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva. On April 26th 1922 the Sants Sports Union was founded as a result of the merging of four entities: the International CF, the Centro Sports de Sants (Sants Sports Centre), the Club Ciclista Nuevo Velódromo de Sants (Sants New Velodrome Cycling Club) and the Velo Club Sants (Sants Velo Club). The Cycling Section was also established at this time, and maintained the tradition of the track meets that the Sants New Velodrome Cycling Club held in the small velodrome on Calle Sant Jordi, most notable of which are the traditional 24-hour races.
Both the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva and the UE Sants have their headquarters in Calle Riego, number 2, in Barcelona, in the heart of Barcelona’s Sants district. The president of the Cycling Section has been Rubén Peris Latorre since the elections held in November 2003.
Since January 1st 2007, the change of name of the entity responsible for organising the Volta came into effect, changing to VOLTA CICLISTA A CATALUNYA with Rubén Peris Latorre acting as president.
