La Pobla de Segur will receive the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya after the town hall and the organization have reached an agreement to make a stage exit coinciding with the 100th edition of the race, to be held between March 23 and 29, 2020.

This will be the third time that La Pobla de Segur welcomes an exit from the "Volta". The last time the race stopped was in 2018, but it was unexpectedly. On that occasion, the meteorological conditions forced to modify the route, moving the departure point planned in Vielha to La Pobla de Segur.

The stage was resolved in favor of German Maximilian Schachmann, who was imposed on the arrival line located in Torrefarrera after a successfully 100 km getaway. The first time that La Pobla de Segur took part in a "Volta" stage trip was in 1979, coinciding with the 59th edition.

On September 10 of that year, the fifth stage began from the municipality of Pallars Jussà to face a difficult 206 km course that ended at Coll de Pal (Bagà). Ricardo Zúñiga was the stage winner, amd Vicente Belda took the lead of the general, that would keep until the end of the race.
