Sant Feliu de Guíxols will be the “Grand Départ” of the Volta 101 and 102

The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will celebrate its 100th edition from March 22 to 28, 2021, has already accorded the departures of the next editions of the years 2022 and 2023, when it will celebrate editions 101 and 102. The Volta will start from Sant Feliu de Guíxols after the agreement has been reached for the city of Baix Empordà to be the starting and finishing stage for the opening stage of the race.

Today the agreement was signed in Sant Feliu de Guíxols, with the presence of the mayor, Carles Motas and the president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Rubèn Peris. In this way, the link between the Volta and Sant Feliu de Guíxols is reinforced taking over from Calella as the start of la Volta.

The agreement is for the next two years, until 2023. For Carles Motas, the agreement is “very positive for the city of Sant Feliu de Guíxols, since it is an event linked to an extraordinary promotion of the city at the media level, and fits into the idea of Sant Feliu de Guíxols as a sports tourism destination”.

The president of the Volta Ciclista Catalunya Associació Esportiva, Rubèn Peris, has shown its satisfaction with the agreement, because Sant Feliu de Guíxols “offers the infrastructure and previous experience to successfully host the start of a race like the Volta, which year after year receives the best teams and riders of the international bunch”.

“Furthermore, its location will allow us to prepare an attractive first stage”, he added. “We hope that the 2022 edition will become the total normality and that all the spectators will once again live the cycling spectacle”.

With almost 22.000 residents and located in the centre of the Costa Brava, Sant Feliu de Guíxols has an important historical and cultural heritage, and is a first-rate tourist destination thanks to its strategic location.
