Barcelona (15-02-2022).- The 101st edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya is confirming little by little the riders who will take part in the race between March 21 and 27. Among them, the Catalan Roger Adrià, from Kern Pharma Team, has confirmed his participation, looking for his consolidation in the world elite in an race where great promises of the international cycling scene such as Juan Ayuso (UAE Team Emirates) or Tobias Johannessen (Uno-X Pro Cycling) will make their debut.
A few days ago, illustrious world stars that this year 2022 will put an end to their cycling career, such as Alejandro Valverde (Movistar Team) or Philippe Gilbert (Lotto - Soudal), confirmed their participation at the Volta. However, the Catalan race is also consolidated as a race with great power of attraction for cyclists called to shine in the very near future.
One of the great hopes of Catalan and Spanish cycling, Roger Adrià (Barcelona, 1998), has confirmed his presence in the 101st edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, where he will face the best riders in the world from 21 to 27 March. Adrià will participate one more year leading the Kern Pharma Team, by far the current professional structure with more representatives of Catalan cycling in its squad this 2022 with up to six cyclists.
In this 2022 he will have a new opportunity to shine, even more after completing a last season where he was consolidated with a great international presence in races like the Paris-Tours and demonstrating a great regularity of results, being 5th in the absolute Spanish Championship or finishing in the top 10 of the overall in stage races like the Tour of Slovakia (4th) or the Vuelta a Asturias (7th).
High expectations
Watching the growth of the young Catalan will be one of the attractions of a Volta that will be no stranger to the explosion of new generations of world cycling, talents that are coming to the fore earlier and earlier.
Another of the big names who has confirmed his presence in the Catalan race in several media is the UAE Team Emirates rider Juan Ayuso (2002). Born in Barcelona, the young rider who grew up in Jávea has been one of the most talked-about breakthroughs in world cycling in recent years and is currently the centre of attention after an impressive 2021 season, in which he won the U23 Giro d'Italia in his first year in the category, jumping directly from the junior ranks. The Volta will be a good showcase to see his level in the high mountains against world-class rivals.
And if the winner of the last Giro U23 has confirmed his presence in the 2022 Volta, so has his second classified and winner of the other great race of the world amateur calendar, the Tour de l’Avenir. Tobias Johannessen (1999) will be the main attraction of this year's guest team, the Norwegian Uno-X Pro Cycling.
Accompanied by his twin brother Anders, also a stage winner in the same 2021 edition of the Tour de France U23, the Norwegians will test their level by making their debut in WorldTour stage races at the Volta. At the start of the 2022 season, Tobias proved that he didn’t want to wait long to showcase himself, taking the victory in the queen stage of the Etoile de Bessèges.
Thus, the current rising stars of world cycling will have their chance to shine in the 101st edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will be held between 21 and 27 March, starting in Sant Feliu de Guíxols and finishing in Barcelona after seven demanding stages with the best cyclists in the world.
