An international peloton for the 3rd edition of the reVolta this Sunday in Sant Cugat

(Sant Cugat del Vallès, 24 May 2022) - The countdown has begun for the 3rd edition of the reVolta, the women's race of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which repeats a prestigious parcours and participation in Sant Cugat del Vallès after the success of the 2021 edition, thanks to the support of the Sant Cugat City Council. About eighty cyclists from 15 different nationalities will be at the start line, ready to face a 97-kilometre route starting and finishing at the Avinguda Pla del Vinyet in the city of Sant Cugat del Vallès, where they will be able to enjoy the spectacle of top-level women's cycling.

One of the main attractions of the race will be the presence of the Cofidis team, a renowned French professional team with more than 20 years of experience with its men's team, which has made a strong start in 2022 with its commitment to the women's team. Everything indicates that their participation will mark the race together with the Catalan team of reference, Massi-Tactic, which after demonstrating its potential in several international races this May. The team will face the reVolta with ambition thanks to the presence of ten cyclists, led by Mireia Benito who will want to improve her fourth position of the last 2021.

At her side will be cyclists from several Spanish teams that are also part of the international UCI Women's Continental, highlighting the Galician Team Farto-BTC that will have eight representatives. The participation will allow to see in action eight of the ten Catalans that this 2022 race in international UCI teams: in addition to Mireia Benito, Mireia Trias, Martina Moreno and Sara Méndez (Massi-Tactic), the reigning elite Spanish Cup champion Patricia Ortega (Sopela Women's Team), Elisabet Escursell (Bepink), the 2021 Catalan champion Iris Gómez (Bizkaia-Durango) and Sílvia Zúñiga (Eneicat-RBH Global) are also scheduled to take part.

The peloton of the 3rd reVolta will include cyclists from Spain, France, Portugal, Germany, Canada, Sweden, Denmark, the Netherlands, Poland, Mexico, Argentina, Iran, Great Britain, Colombia and South Africa. An international participation contributed by the presence of teams like the Zaaf Cycling Team, that will be in the start with a very international team of eight cyclists, the Colombian San Mateo Procycling or the Portuguese team Vélo Performance, that will give colour to a participation of national teams where the Catalan Catema. cat, the base team of the Club Ciclista Baix Ter from where Massi-Tactic was born, which will have thirteen cyclists on the start line, the French team Groupe Abadie-Le Boulou, with several Catalan cyclists such as the leader of the Catalan Cup Raquel Torrell, and the Galician team Kiwi Atlántico-Louriña, which will have eight cyclists on the start line.

The reVolta will repeat for its 3rd edition the route that gave such a good result last 2021, with 97 kilometres starting and finishing at Avinguda Pla del Vinyet, which will start at 10am and the first cyclists are expected to arrive at around 12:45pm. The scoring passes of the Alt de Capçuda (third category) and the Altde la Creu de l'Aragall (first category), the latter being 30 kilometres from the finishing line, are the main difficulties of a demanding route that runs through the regions of Vallès Occidental, Baix Llobregat, Anoia and Alt Penedès, including the intermediate sprints of Piera and Corbera de Llobregat.

The winner of this 3rd edition of the reVolta will take over from the Norwegian cyclist Katrine Aalerud (Movistar Team), winner last year in Sant Cugat in a thrilling sprint, and the American Lauren Stephens, who took the victory at the inaugural edition of the event held in 2018 as part of the men's race at the Montjuic circuit in Barcelona. A trajectory of the event that seeks its consolidation with a promising 3rd edition this 2022, more international than ever.
