The Volta a Catalunya will count on Aquaservice to eliminate single-use plastics

 (Barcelona, 15/03/2021).- The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya and Aquaservice have announced today their agreement for the leading company in the distribution of mineral water and soft drinks with dispenser in Spain to become the official supplier of the Catalan cycling race. Thanks to Aquaservice, the 101st edition of the Volta will be the most sustainable in its recent history by eliminating plastic waste from water consumption.

Aquaservice's participation in the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will avoid the use of more than 6,000 single-use plastic bottles consumed during the competition, thanks to its circular service model of bottled water with dispenser. In this way, the company will distribute more than 2,000 litres of water during the seven stages of the race, thus implementing, for the first time in the Volta, a solution that eliminates the plastic waste derived from the consumption of water by the nearly 200 members of the race's organisational caravan.

Fernando García-Guzmán Blanco, Aquaservice's Marketing, Commercial and Logistics Director, said: "Aquaservice is a company with a native circular model and we are committed to contribute to minimise the impact on the environment in the events in which we operate. For this reason, our union with the Volta is a natural alliance and will allow us to drastically reduce the use of plastics generated by a sporting event with such a large attendance". Rubèn Peris, stressed that "for the Volta a Catalunya, it is very important to work on reducing the environmental impact generated by the race caravan. A sport like cycling, one of the most important values of which is the commitment to sustainability, must aim to reduce its footprint, and thanks to Aquaservice we will take an important step forward in this direction in the 2022 edition".

The most sustainable Volta

The 101st edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, the third oldest cycling stage race in the world after the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, reinforces its commitment to sustainability and becomes a new competition that decides to eliminate plastic waste from water consumption.

Thanks to Aquaservice's reusable bottles and its water dispenser system, users can refill reusable bottles for individual consumption, thus eliminating the single-use plastic water bottles that are handed out during sporting events.

Aquaservice, a zero-impact native circular model

Aquaservice is the only brand that offers a 100% native circular solution on a large scale for bottled water in Spain. This was the case from the moment of its creation in 1997, developing a business model in which the materials of the bottles, as well as the dispensers, are recycled and reused.
