Molins de Rei will be the protagonist of the Volta again

Molins de Rei will host the start of the last stage of the Volta a Catalunya, which between 7 and 9 June 2024 will celebrate the first edition of its women's stage race. The town of Baix Llobregat, which hosted a stage finish of the last edition of the men's race, will once again be part of the route of the Catalan cycling race, this time as part of a historic event such as the first women's stage race of the Volta Catalunya.
Thus, Molins de Rei will once again be a major protagonist in the Volta a Catalunya, in this case hosting a stage start of the women's stage race, which this year takes a step further as an international race of UCI 2.1 category. The Volta will have a luxury participation of twenty teams of international and national level, including seven UCI World Teams, the teams of the first world division -the maximum allowed by its category-, in an important step forward thanks to the support of the program "Entre totes, tot", of the Secretaría General de l' Esport.
The municipality of Baix Llobregat, which had seen in recent years in its route the reVolta, the women's one-day race organized by the Volta a Catalunya, will be this year's protagonist as the venue for the birth of the stage race, following its history of collaboration with the Catalan race in recent years. In the 102nd edition of the Volta held last 2023, Molins de Rei hosted a finish. It was in the sixth stage, which left Martorell and was resolved in an exciting sprint that won the Australian Kaden Groves. A finish that was eagerly awaited by the large community and cycling fans of the municipality, coinciding with the 75th anniversary of the Molins Cycling Club.
Previously, Molins de Rei had been the start of a 13.1 km individual time trial finishing in Vallvidrera (Barcelona) in the 2003 Volta Catalunya, which was won by the winner of that edition, José Antonio Pecharromán, ahead of Roberto Heras and the Colombian Santiago Botero. Besides, in recent years, Molins de Rei had been the protagonist of several intermediate sprints of the men's Volta, gathering an outstanding presence of public.
"It is an honor to collaborate for the second consecutive year with the Volta, and even more doing it with the women's race that this year takes strength. Thus, Molins de Rei will be able to enjoy close to the best cyclists in the world next Sunday, June 9, as the start of the first women's edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya. The city of Baix Llobregat will be the protagonist of the start of the final stage of a historic event, which will end in Barcelona and will mean a consolidation of the Volta in the international women's cycling calendar.
