May 5 th 2025 - 11:00 [GMT + 2]
The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya starts the countdown for the 2nd stage edition of its women's race, which from 6 to 8 June will bring together some of the best cyclists and teams in the world. Dutch rider Demi Vollering, one of the biggest stars of world women's cycling with victories in the Tour de France and the Vuelta a España, will be one of the main attractions of the Catalan race, after her team FDJ-SUEZ confirmed her participation in the Volta to the organisation.
After the great premiere experienced in the last 2024, with the final victory of the triple world champion Marianne Vos, a historical emblem of world women's cycling, the Volta a Catalunya is preparing to live a great second edition of its women's stage race, in which Demi Vollering will be one of the great favourites after confirming her participation through her new team, FDJ-SUEZ.
Winner of grand tours such as the Tour de France Femmes (2023) and La Vuelta Femenina (2024) and great classics such as Liège-Bastogne-Liège (2021 and 2023), Strade Bianche (2023 and 2025), Flèche Wallonne or Amstel Gold, Vollering is one of the great cycling references of the last years, being able to dominate both stage races and one-day races all over the calendar.
At 28 years of age, the Dutch rider has established herself as one of the great cyclists of her generation, and in 2025 she will be looking to add the Volta a Catalunya to her list of honours, which already includes other major races on the national women's calendar such as the Vuelta a Burgos (2023 and 2024) and the Itzulia Women (2022 and 2024). Vollering will be put to the test on the demanding course of the Catalan race on her way to the Tour de France Femmes, which last season she was only 4 seconds away from retaining her title.
The Volta a Catalunya will celebrate its second women's edition on 6, 7 and 8 June on a three-stage route between the Tarragona town of Perelló and Barcelona, with the high-altitude finish at the Coll de Pal as the foreseeable great judge in the fight for the general classification.
Consolidated in the international UCI 2.1 category, the Catalan race will count on the participation of twenty teams, four of them in the UCI WorldTour category (FDJ-SUEZ of Vollering, Movistar Team, Human Powered and Team Visma-Lease a Bike).
