2a Volta a Catalunya femenina. Highlights Etapa 3: Castelldefels - Barcelona

The second women's edition of the Volta a Catalunya has had a dream closing for the champion Demi Vollering and her team FDJ-Suez, who have finished the race with their third stage victory thanks to the triumph of the Dutch rider Loes Adegeest in Barcelona. With a day of 114 kilometres starting from Castelldefels and finishing on Avenida María Cristina in the Catalan capital, the team of the best cyclist in the world put the icing on the cake of three days of round competition in Catalonia, thanks to which Vollering has taken over from Marianne Vos as the final winner of the Volta, accompanied on the podium by her teammate Elise Chabbey and Frenchwoman Marion Bunel (Team Visma-Lease a Bike).

A sprint finish in Barcelona has closed a great 2nd edition of the Volta a Catalunya for women, which has had a hard-fought final stage before reaching Avenida Maria Cristina. The movements have been constant since the beginning of the stage, with a first breakaway attempt by the Dutch Anneke Dijkstra (VolkerWessels) that has led her to crown alone the first pass of the day, the Alto de Lavit (3rd category).

After their neutralisation, powerful teams such as FDJ-Suez and Team Visma-Lease a Bike looked for new breakaways on the approach to the Alt de Begues (3rd category), which was crowned 25 kilometres from the finish line. An attempt by about fifteen riders was cancelled by Movistar Team, also very active in this final stage, and not even a last breakaway by Agua Marina Espinola (Team Farto-Kiroot) and Quinty Schoens (VolkerWessels Cycling) in the last 10 kilometres of the city avoided a mass sprint in the stage in the city.

Demi Vollering (FDJ-Suez), wearing her leader's jersey from the previous day, was the one who launched the sprint on Avenida Maria Cristina to take the stage victory from her teammate Loes Adegeest, closing a dream triplet for the French team with three stage victories, adding the one achieved in the initial stage in Reus by Elise Chabbey and the one in Coll de Pal by Vollering herself, which earned her the victory in the final general classification. Three days of competition in which Demi Vollering took part in the victory.

Thus, the winner of two editions of La Vuelta Femenina and one of the Tour de France has climbed the podium as the final winner of the second women's edition of the Volta a Catalunya, taking over from another icon of international women's cycling as Marianne Vos. Vollering has climbed the podium accompanied in second position by her teammate Elise Chabbey and in third by the young French Mariom Bunel (Team Visma-Lease a Bike), her great rival in the mountain stage, leaving a great honor roll for a Volta a Catalunya to remember for its great winner and the exhibition of FDJ-Suez in the three days of competition.
