January 13 th 2026 - 14:35 [GMT + 1]

Jonas Vingegaard, double Tour de France winner, has announced this Tuesday the Volta a Catalunya on his 2026 calendar. The Danish rider, who was suposed to make his debut on the Catalan race last season but had to withdraw last minute because of an injury, becomes then one of the main attractions of the UCI WorldTour race which will take place from 23rd to 29th March, where he will face the double Olympic champion Remco Evenepoel, amongst others.

Winner of two editions of the Tour de France (2022 and 2023) and the last Vuelta a España (2025), Vingegaard confirmed his 2026 season schedule at Team Visma-Lease a Bike's Media Day. The Volta a Catalunya, which continues to bring together the stars of the Cycling world year after year, will be one of the big events at the start of the season for the Danish cyclist, who plans to make his debut in the Giro d'Italia before tackling the Tour de France for the sixth time, where he has been on the podium in the last five editions.

At 29, one of the greatest stage race specialists of his generation will make his debut in the historic Catalan UCI WorldTour event, which will seek to find the successors to its latest winners, world stars such as Tadej Pogacar (2024) and his compatriot Primoz Roglic (2023 and 2025).

After a crash in Paris-Nice prevented him from participating in the 2025 season, Jonas Vingegaard is once again aiming to add the Volta a Catalunya to his list of trophies, which includes other prestigious UCI WorldTour stage races such as Tirreno-Adriatico, Itzulia Basque Country, and Critérium du Dauphiné.

With seven highly attractive stages between Sant Feliu de Guíxols and Barcelona, including three major mountain stages, Vingegaard will be one of the big favorites to win the Volta, which, pending further confirmations, has already announced the participation of Belgian star Remco Evenepoel, a big name in the 2023 edition of the Catalan race as current world champion, along with other grand tour specialists such as Joao Almeida, Florian Lipowitz, Mikel Landa, Felix Gall or David Gaudu.
