The town of Vila-seca in Tarragona, home to Olympic track cyclist Helena Casas, knows what it means to be protagonist the Catalan race. Australian Michael Matthews was the last winner on its streets in 2019, but Vila-seca and Pineda Platja were particularly prominent between the 1990s and 2000s, hosting the grand departure of the Volta on five occasions with several individual and team time trials.
