The city of Perpignan returns to the history of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya more than half a century after his last appearence. The capital of Roussillon returns to the race route, and it will do so with great prominence, hosting both the arrival of the second stage and the start of the following day, the first mountain stage of the 2022 edition with a finish in La Molina. In the 100 previous editions of the Volta, Perpignan had only been on the route in 1949 and 1955, also hosting both the finish and the start of its stages. The Frenchman Pierre Roux and the Catalan Josep Mateo were the winners, respectively.

There are so many capitals in it... Perpignan is the capital of Roussillon, the capital of the Pyrénées-Orientales, the capital of the Sardana, the European wine capital and the capital of the metropolis.

Definitely, Perpignan must be written in capital letters.

A status earned thanks to its rich history and heritage, an experience to be lived. It is the sun of a galaxy of worlds, of atmospheres, of stories, a destination with a thousand faces for multiple journeys.

As Salvador Dalí used to say, Perpignan is the "Centre of the World". Between the Mediterranean Sea and the Pyrenees mountains, the sun shines on you more than 300 days a year: dream no more, you are here
