La Seu d'Urgell has a long history with the Volta, dating back to 1930, when it saw the iconic Mariano Cañardo win on its streets on his way to one of his seven victories in the general classification, still a record. Since then, it has been featured 22 times in the men's race route, most recently as the starting point for a stage that ended at the summit of Boi Taüll, and it also made its debut as a host city for the women's race in 2024.
