Molins de Rei will live a finish of a stage of la Volta for the first time in its history

Molins de Rei will host a finish stage of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in 2023, in the 102nd edition of the competition. It will be the first time that the Baix Llobregat town will host a finish of the race, because it had previously involved in a start, in 2003.  

It will be the return of the Volta to the town 20 years later, as Molins de Rei was the start of a 13.1km individual time trial with a finish in Vallvidrera (Barcelona) which was won by José Antonio Pecharromán followed by Roberto Heras and the Colombian Santiago Botero.  

This time, Molins de Rei will celebrate in the next edition the arrival of a road stage in its town, in a very awaited finish by the great cycling community that exists in the city and by all the followers and fans of the sport, in addition, coinciding with a very special date: the 75th anniversary of the Club Ciclista Molins de Rei. In fact, in recent years Molins de Rei has hosted several intermediate sprints of the competition, followed by a large number of spectators.  

The mayor of Molins de Rei, Xavi Paz, is grateful for the confidence of the organiser and assures that "it is a pride to receive the Volta, a centenary cycling event". He also assures that "it is an opportunity to promote the town in all its dimensions and at the same time make citizens enjoy this great event". In the same sense, the sports councillor, Ramon Sánchez, explained that "this will have a great impact on Molins de Rei, which will have a positive effect especially on our commerce and hostelry, and will also serve to promote the municipality throughout the country".  

"Molins de Rei will welcome us with open arms and we are very excited that for the first time in the long history of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya we will celebrate in the city the finish of a stage. I would like to thank the involvement of the City Council for making it possible to return to the city twenty years later", said the president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Rubèn Peris.  

The Volta, the third oldest stage race in the world only surpassed by the Tour of France and the Giro of Italy, will visit a city located in a privileged environment for cycling in all its disciplines.  

The 102nd edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya will be held from 20 to 26 March 2023, with the participation of the 18 best teams in the world, the UCI WorldTeams, and 7 invited teams from the UCI ProTeams category.   The last winner of the race was the Colombian Sergio Higuita (Bora-Hansgrohe), followed in the podium by the Ecuadorian Richard Carapaz (INEOS) and the Portuguese Joao Almeida (UAE Team).
