January 10 th 2024 - 10:18 [GMT + 1]

The Volta's activities are focused on promoting cycling through a UCI World Tour event (the highest category of professional cycling), thus allowing the best teams and riders in the world to compete. The great number of fans and the visibility of the Catalan territory, which is shown live all over the world in more than 190 countries, are the main protagonists. The Catalan employers' association is committed to collaborate with La Volta, to improve the competitiveness of the Catalan sports sector and the continuous search for synergies with the business world.

The president of Foment del Treball, Josep Sánchez Llibre, and the president of La Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, Rubèn Peris Latorre, have signed today a collaboration agreement between both entities to contribute together to the growth and dynamism of La Volta 2024. The best cyclists in the world will compete one more year on Catalan roads in this 103rd edition, which will be held between March 18 and 24, 2024, and is expected to be one of the toughest in history, with three high altitude finishes, unprecedented venues and expected returns.

Sánchez Llibre has defended the benefits of hosting major sporting events like La Volta that promote us worldwide: "From Foment del Treball we will continue to contribute to the consolidation of Catalonia as a hub for the celebration of major world events such as La Volta, which have a positive economic and social impact for the country in both the short and long term".

For his part, Rubèn Peris has highlighted the high benefits that companies could find in a first-class event like the Volta; "La Volta is a magnificent showcase for both national companies and for those with international projection. It has a television coverage that ensures the broadcasting of the event in 190 countries and 5 continents, thanks to 33 international broadcasters. So companies can find multiple opportunities to link up with the event".

The sports industry is essential in Catalonia for its contribution to GDP, employment, and the international projection of the Barcelona and Catalonia brand that it generates. With this agreement, Foment is committed to collaborate with La Volta and thus improve the competitiveness of the Catalan sports sector and the continuous search for synergies with the business world. "Public-private collaboration has always been a success in Catalonia, it is part of our political and business culture, an example of this formula for success was the 1992 Olympic Games," recalled the president of Foment.

The Volta's activities are focused on promoting cycling through a UCI World Tour event (the highest category of professional cycling), which ensures the presence of the best teams and riders in the world. The race has daily television coverage, reaching more than 190 countries around the world.

The historic Catalan race will have seven stages full of novelties. Starting from Sant Feliu de Guíxols, the Volta will visit a large part of the Catalan territory (Mataró, FGC Vallter, Sant Joan de les Abadesses, FGC Port Ainé, Sort, Lleida, Altafulla, Viladecans, Berga, Queralt), and will end in Barcelona.   Events such as the Volta, with a great positive impact on various economic sectors such as tourism and services, commerce, or sports, among others, represent a unique opportunity for the generation of jobs, attracting talent, and moving towards a higher value-added tourism for the territory.
