October 22 nd 2025 - 13:58 [GMT + 2]
The town in the Maresme region will make its debut as a Volta venue in style, hosting the first stage of the women's race.
Now that the dates for the third edition of the race have been confirmed, which will take place from 19 to 21 June 2026, we know where the Volta will start. The municipality of Santa Susanna will host the start and finish of the first stage of the race, which is included in the UCI 2.1 category and has established itself on the international calendar thanks to the achievements of previous editions. Media coverage of the Catalan race will showcase the virtues of Santa Susanna as a cycling destination to the world, highlighting its privileged natural environment, its infrastructure and its commitment to active and sustainable tourism.
The Volta Ciclista Catalunya is currently immersed in preparations for what will be the third edition of the women's race. This edition will be the focus of global cycling interest between 19 and 21 June, as the world's best teams and cyclists gather in our region to tackle the three stages of the Catalan race.
The first stage will start in the municipality of Santa Susanna, in the Maresme region, a location that has never featured in the history of the Volta and which will now have its name entered in the Volta's Book of Honour as the start and finish location for the first stage. Santa Susanna has established itself as one of the most prominent tourist destinations on the Barcelona coast thanks to its commitment to sustainability and the promotion of sport as a strategic axis of local development.
This inclusive model combines tourism, health, education and social cohesion. Since 2007, the municipality has held the Sports Tourism Brand, hosting numerous national and international events over the years and establishing itself as an ideal venue for sports practice, competition and innovation. Known as the Oasis of the Mediterranean, Santa Susanna is Spain's first sun and beach tourist destination to have its carbon footprint certified. This certification represents a qualitative leap forward and sets it apart as a model of sustainable, innovative and fully environmentally friendly economic activity.
The origin of its success as an international destination lies in its privileged geographical location and exceptional natural characteristics. With excellent transport links, Santa Susanna is an ideal base for discovering Barcelona and Catalonia. It is also the gateway to the Montnegre and Corredor Natural Park, a protected area covering more than 15,000 hectares of lush vegetation that offers residents and visitors endless possibilities for nature and sports tourism. This integrated model has enabled Santa Susanna to develop a cutting-edge hotel infrastructure that is constantly being reinvested in, providing the destination with top-quality accommodation and services that are recognized and proven in all international markets.
The mayor of Santa Susanna, Joan Campolier, has expressed his satisfaction with the agreement reached with the Volta organization: "It is a great pleasure for the town of Santa Susanna to host the 2026 Volta Catalunya Women’s Race. Being able to carry out joint projects with pioneering sports organizations in our country, such as the Volta, and continuing to support sport - and specifically women's sport - confirms, once again, that sport is the best guarantee for active and healthy tourism and the best form of education and social cohesion." ‘The Santa Susanna Town Council will work together with the Volta organization to ensure an excellent welcome for the teams, cyclists and thousands of visitors who will be following this historic first stage live.’
For his part, Rubèn Peris, president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, thanked the municipality for its commitment to women's sport and especially to the women's race of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya: "Santa Susanna is making a grand entrance into the history of the race, hosting the grand start of the 3rd edition of the Volta. This is an opportunity that will allow us to enjoy the spectacular landscapes of the area, which will enable all fans to enjoy the best in women's cycling. Thanks to the wide reach of this international event, Santa Susanna will be able to show the world its unbeatable location for sports, especially cycling."
With a total of three stages, including one at altitude, the race will offer a demanding course that will provide a magnificent opportunity for teams and their riders to gauge their fitness at the start of the summer. In previous editions, we have been able to enjoy the talent of riders of the caliber of Marianne Vos, a legend of women's cycling, who won the first edition of the race, while just a few months ago, the winner of the second edition was Demi Vollering, the Dutch rider who was crowned European champion just a few weeks ago.
