November 14 th 2025 - 11:00 [GMT + 1]

The tough high mountains and the diversity of the terrain will be decisive in determining the outcome of this edition, marked by spectacle, strategy and excitement.

The Volta Ciclista a Catalunya has confirmed all the venues for its 105th edition, which will be held from 23 to 29 March 2026. The organizers have announced all the start and finish points for the seven stages, which will once again bring together the best teams and cyclists in Catalonia. The route will include three mountain finishes, several new venues and a demanding and varied itinerary that will cover a large part of Catalonia. At the same time, the women's Volta has also revealed the three stages that will be contested on 19, 20 and 21 June, with the participation of some of the best women's teams in the world.

With all the start and finish locations confirmed, the next edition of the Volta will once again put Catalonia at the center of the global cycling spotlight from 23 to 29 March. The race, which is part of the UCI World Tour calendar, is enjoying a period of great success thanks to the sporting and organizational achievements of recent years, which have consolidated its position among the most prestigious events on the international scene. Top-level figures such as Tadej Pogačar, Remco Evenepoel and Primož Roglič have already left memorable moments in the Catalan mountain passes in recent years. Now, the challenge continues: the organizers are working to ensure that the 2026 Volta a Catalunya once again thrills the world of cycling.

With five months to go before the event, the organizers are committed to a demanding and varied route that will cover Catalonia from north to south and from the coast to the high mountains, incorporating venues that have not been used before. One of these is Mont-roig del Camp, which will host the start of the third stage on a route along the Costa Daurada that will end in Vila-seca. The next edition will also be marked by three mountain finishes, Vallter, the return to Coll de Pal 45 years later and the eagerly awaited climb to Queralt, two stages that are set to be decisive in the fight for the overall classification. All details of the exact route, including mileage, mountain passes and intermediate sprints, will be announced at the official presentation in early 2026.

Route of the 105th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya:

Satge 1: Monday 23rd of March: Sant Feliu de Guíxols – Sant Feliu de Guíxols

Stage 2: Tuesday 24th of March: Figueres - Banyoles

Stage 3: Wednesday 25th of March: Costa Daurada (Mont-roig del Camp – Vila-seca)

Stage 4: Thursday 26th of March: Mataró – Vallter

Stage 5: Friday 27th of March: La Seu d’Urgell – La Molina / Coll de Pal

Stage 6: Saturday 28th of March: Berga – Queralt

Stage 7: Sunday 29th of March: Barcelona – Barcelona

For the fourth consecutive year, Sant Feliu de Guíxols will host the Grand Depart of the Volta. The municipality will once again provide a privileged setting for a stage starting and finishing in the town of Baix Empordà, where in recent editions the victory has been decided between big favorites or renowned sprinters.

The following day, Figueres will take over with a second stage that will reach Banyoles and allow riders to follow some of the most iconic routes in the Girona region. In the last edition, this pairing was already the star of the show, but in reverse, starting in Banyoles and finishing in Figueres.

The third day will take the race to Mont-roig del Camp, a location that is new to the history of the Volta. The town in Baix Camp will kick off a stage that will pass through some of the most outstanding landscapes of the Costa Daurada and culminate in Vila-seca, a setting already familiar to the race. The Tarragona route also promises to showcase some of the most traditional mountain passes in the area.

As has been evident in recent years, the mountain finishes will once again be decisive in the outcome of the Volta. In total, there will be three final climbs: Vallter (stage 4) and La Molina/Coll de Pal (stage 5), both in the ski resorts of Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC), and Queralt (stage 6).

The acid test at altitude will come on the fourth day with the demanding climb to Vallter, in a stage that will start in Mataró, in a year in which EC Mataró, the city's leading cycling club, celebrates its centenary. The last visit to Vallter left a lasting impression: Tadej Pogačar's victory in a stage marked by low temperatures and rain, which pushed the riders to their limits.

The following day will be the turn of La Molina/Coll de Pal, one of the most demanding mountain passes in Catalonia and a stage that the Volta has not visited for 45 years. The last arrival was in 1979, when Catalan Ricardo Zuñiga crossed the finish line in first place. In this edition, the riders will start the stage in Lleida province, in La Seu d'Urgell, before tackling the final climb of this segment, which will undoubtedly be one of the most thrilling and exciting of the upcoming edition.

The last mountain finish will come on Saturday 28 March, with Berguedà taking center stage. After a memorable stage in 2024, in which the huge crowds overshadowed even the sporting aspect with images that were seen around the world, and a 2025 edition marked by inclement weather that forced changes to the route, the organizers are confident that this year's event will be a spectacular spectacle once again. The climb up the imposing Queralt, starting from the capital of Berguedà, once again promises to offer some of the most spectacular moments of the Volta. Finally, on Sunday 29 March, it will be Barcelona's turn.

The Catalan capital, with its now legendary laps of Montjuïc – an undisputed landmark in the history of international cycling – will bring a week of pure spectacle to a close. The Volta is now looking forward to its 105th edition, firmly established in the UCI World Tour calendar as one of the most prestigious races in the world, with a line-up of stars ready to offer the best cycling on Catalan roads.

3rd Volta a Catalunya, women's race: 19 to 21 June 2026

At the same time, the women's race has already set the route for its third edition in stages. The race, included in the international 2.1 calendar, has set a route consisting of stages that will include a demanding mountain stage on the second day:

Stage 1. Friday 19th of June: Santa Susanna- Santa Susanna

Stage 2. Saturday 20th of June: Sant Vicenç de Castellet – La Molina

Stage 3. Sunday 21st of June: Mataró – Barcelona

The grand departure will take place from Santa Susanna. The town in the Maresme region will host a Volta departure for the first time, in a stage that will allow the riders to travel along some of the most popular routes in the area before returning to the same municipality, which will also be the finish line. The second day will test the participants with the climb to La Molina, one of the key moments of the race. The stage, starting from Sant Vicenç de Castellet, is set to mark the outcome of the competition. Finally, Mataró will make its debut as the starting point for the women's race in 2026, marking the beginning of the final stage of the race. The route, which is yet to be revealed, will culminate in Barcelona, the destination of the third edition, which will bring the best riders on the international scene to our home, as we saw in the first edition with the victory of Marianne Vos, or her compatriot Demi Vollering taking over last June.

Berni Álvarez, Minister for Sport of the Generalitat de Catalunya, highlighted the organizational capacity of the Catalan sports system: "With the Government's support for the men's and women's editions of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, we are committed to continuing a world-class sporting event that positions Catalonia as a leading sporting power. Within the framework of the Esport360 project, it is essential to hold events such as the Volta, which is more than just a cycling competition and a sporting spectacle. It is synonymous with social and territorial cohesion, economy, tourism and the country's global profile, as well as an example of the renowned organizational capacity of the Catalan sports system.”

The Secretary General of the Department of Sport, Abel Garcia, added: "2026 will be a very special year for Catalan cycling, with all eyes on the first three stages of the Tour de France taking place on Catalan soil. Before this major event, we will enjoy the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, with the 105th edition for men and the 3rd for women, an event that is part of Catalan sporting heritage and a source of pride for the country. Because it keeps the love of cycling alive in our region, allows us to see the world's leading figures in this sport up close and reinforces Catalonia as a leading cycling destination."

For his part, Rubèn Peris, president of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva, said: "In 2026, we will once again have a spectacular Volta a Catalunya, both in its men's and women's editions. We will prepare demanding stages so that the cyclists can shine and the public can thrill. I would like to give special thanks to the Government of Catalonia, the provincial councils, the towns of departure, arrival and passage, and the sponsors for their support, as with them we continue to make progress in offering the best Volta possible."

The participation of true luxury in the two stages of the Volta will be combined with routes for which the mileage of each stage, the accumulated elevation gain and the mountain passes have not yet been revealed, details that will be made public at the official presentation of the race. An event that will once again combine the spirit of cycling with the beauty of the Catalan countryside.
