For the fifth consecutive edition, Sant Feliu de Guíxols will be the Grand Depart of the Volta a Catalunya, thanks to an agreement signed until 2027. There was a precedent in which the Empordà city had laid the first stone of the Volta: it was in 1993, with an individual time trial won by Italian Maurizio Fondriest ahead of Miguel Indurain. In total, Sant Feliu de Guíxols has been a host city for the Volta a Catalunya on fourteen occasions, witnessing victories by cycling stars such as Laurent Jalabert (1992), Michael Matthews (2019 and 2022) and, in recent years, Primoz Roglic (2023), Nick Schultz (2024) and Matthew Brennan (2025), all of whom have been protagonists in thrilling finishes.
