The mountain resort of Vallter will be the finish of a stage of the Volta for the eighth time in history, and it has always been a decisive point on the route. In five of the seven finishes at the top of Catalonia's cycling roof to date, whoever has won at Vallter has finished on the podium of the general classification. Juan Fernández was the winner at the resort's debut in the Volta in 1986 and was followed by Tony Rominger (1992), Nairo Quintana (2013), Tejay Van Garderen (2014), Adam Yates, winner in 2019 and 2021, the year he also took the general classification, and Giulio Ciccone (2023).

The Vallter ski and mountain resort, opened in 1975, is surrounded by peaks of over 2,800m above sea level. With its base at 2,000m of altitude, it allows to combine alpine skiing on the central slopes with ski mountaineering in the Xalet area.

Vallter is the easternmost ski resort in the Catalan Pyrenees. It is located in the Ripollès region, in the municipality of Setcases. From its highest point (2,535 metres) you can see the Mediterranean Sea on clear days. It is located in a unique setting, with landscapes of incomparable beauty in the middle of the glacial cirque of Morens-Ull de Ter and at an altitude of 2,000 metres above the valley of the Ter river, within the Natural Park of Capçaleres del Ter and Freser and incredible high mountain landscapes.

Visitors can enjoy all kinds of sporting activities in the snow, such as skiing and snowboarding; mountain activities with snowshoeing and ski mountaineering; and leisure activities, workshops for children and tobogganing. Its proximity to Girona and Barcelona will make your stay the best getaway.

Much more than just a resort, Vallter is a mountain centre. Surrounded by emblematic mountains such as Bastiments (2,881 m), Gra de Fajol (2,708 m) and Pic de la Dona (2,704 m), it favours good snow conditions and makes it the ideal place for outdoor sports and activities such as alpine skiing, snowboarding, ski mountaineering, snowshoeing, freeride...

With a skiable area of more than 15 km and specific ski mountaineering and snowshoeing itineraries, Vallter is an ideal destination for those who want to start or practice ski mountaineering and snowshoeing. The resort allows users to enjoy a breathtaking descent on perfect snow, culminating in a beautiful alpine landscape. An unbeatable experience: if you like the high mountains, you will fall in love with Vallter!

The road is specially signposted all the way (12 km), starting in the village of Setcases at 1260m and culminating at the upper car park of the resort, at 2155m, with a total ascent of 895m. This is a great ascent worthy of the best cycling races with vertical signposting along the entire climb where the cyclist, once at the top, will be able to enjoy the spectacular views of the Circ de Morens.
