A 99th Volta full of stars

The 99th edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catlaunya starts tomorrow from Calella with a practically unbeatable participation. The world champion and double winner of the “Volta”, Alejandro Valverde, the four times winner of the Tour, Chris Froome, the winner of the Vuelta, Simon Yates, or the Colombian Nairo Quintana, are only some of the great cycling stars that will attend the race.
With a stage with a middle mountain profile starting and finishing at Calella, of 164km), the “Volta” will start tomorrow its 99th edition in a great health. The race, inside the UCIWorld Tour that gathers the best teams in the wolrd, has seduced the best riders of the bunch.
Egan Bernal, Thibaut Pinot, Romain Bardet, Richi Porte, Dan Martin, Warren Barguil, Steven Kruijswijk, Michael Woods, Wilco Kelderman, Thomas De Gendt, Enric Mas o Marc Soler, all important cyclists at their teams, will be at the starting line in Calella.
The race will also have a record media impact, with images at more the 190 countries and live TV at the 5 continents, theank you to up to 29 international transmitters. An spectacular impact in media that will spot Catalunya as a Tourism destination and the “Volta” as an event of maximum competitive sports level.
With start at Calella, the Volta will live a a second stage between Mataró and Sant Feliu de Guíxols (166,7km) before facing the high mountain. This year Vallter 2000 and La Molina will be the two finish lines at a high level at the stages 3 and 4 of the race. The general ranking will start to be stablished at the ski stations, were there will sure be a battle between the great cyclists.
The fifth stage between Puigcerdà and Sant Cugat (188km) will be the largest at the present edition, and Saturday the riders will visit tarragonine counties with an incursion at Lleida province at the stage Valls - Vila-seca.
Finally, the last stage will be the classic at Barcelona, with 8 rounds at Montjuïc’s circuit where the 99th edition of la Volta Ciclista a Catalunya podium will probably be defined. The Volta is the race at the start of the season with best participation of the world. More than 160 Catalan cities will see the bunch of the Volta.
