February 26 th 2020 - 17:33

Chris Froome has revealed that his competition calendar in 2020 includes the participation in the 100th Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will be held from March 23 to 29. The British rider, four times Tour de France winner, has announced it in statements broadcast by EFE agency during his participation in the Tour of the Emirates. He also explained that before traveling to Catalonia, he will hold a preparatory concentration in South Africa.

In this way, the Volta will once again count with one of the referents of the international bunch. Last year, Froome was already at the starting line in Calella, highlighting in the favorites list with Egan Bernal, Richard Carapaz, Alejandro Valverde, Nairo Quintana or Miguel Ángel López. The rider of Ineos Team, however, suffered a fall in the second stage, between Mataró and Sant Feliu de Guíxols, whithout significant consequences, but separated him from the first positions of the overall.

This year will be the eighth presence of Chris Froome in the Volta, which will coincide with an edition as special as the 100th. The British will take advantage of the race to continue finding sensations after the serious fall he suffered last year while studying the time trial of the Dauphiné Libéré and that has kept him nine months away from the competition until his reappearance this week in the Tour of the Emirates.

With Froome, the list of outstanding riders  who will participate in the 100th edition of the Volta is expanded, such as Alejandro Valverde, Nairo Quintana, Marc Soler, Warren Barguil and the current champion of the race, the Colombian Miguel Ángel López.
