Chris Froome has once again included the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya in his competition calendar for 2021, according to Rik Verbrugghe, sports director of the Israel Start-Up Nation, in an interview in the newspaper Het Nieuwsblad.

The planning foresees that between 22 and 28 March the four times Tour de France winner will participate in the 100th edition of the Volta, that is one of his benchmark races. He has been present seven times between 2010 and 2019, with a sixth place as the best ranking (2014). Last year he also had to be at the start line in Calella, but Covid-19 forced to suspend the race.

Currently Froome is in California preparing for a very important season in his career. The four-time Tour champion makes his debut with the Israel Start-Up Nation jersey with the expectation of finding himself with the best sensations after the serious crash suffered in 2018 while studying the route of the Dauphiné Libéré time trial and to be one of the references of his new team.

Froome's calendar for this 2021 will start at the end of February in Portugal, coinciding with the Tour of the Algarve, and then he will head to Catalunya to participate in the Volta. The attractive and varied route of the catalan race, included in the UCI World Tour calendar, is an excellent way for the British to measure his strenghs and prepare the Tour de France, which is once again one of his greats goals of the season.
