Richard Carapaz chooses the Volta to make his debut this 2021

Richard Carapaz (INEOS Grenadiers), winner of the Giro d'Italia in 2019 and second of the Vuelta last year, will be one of the great names present at the 100th Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, which will be held from March 22 to 28. The Ecuadorian rider has chosen the Volta to make his debut in the 2021 season, in which he appears again among the main candidates to stand out in the main races of the UCI WorldTour Calendar.

"La Volta a Catalunya is a race that I have already done in previous editions and I think this year is very special because it has two high finishes that could go very well for me. I think it will be a tough race, one of the first in which I will be with the team and the competitions prior to the Tour de France, we will try to do them in the best way, "Carapaz explained on his website.

The varied and demanding route that defines the 100th Volta, places the Ecuadorian on the list of main candidates to wear the white jersey with green stripes as the leader of the event. In fact, he is one of the leaders of the powerful INEOS Grenadiers team.

During the next few weeks the list of confirmed riders for the Volta will continue to be defined, which for another year will feature the elite of world cycling. Chris Froome, winner of four Tour de France, who has once again included the Volta in his competition calendar for 2021, as advanced a few weeks ago in an interview by Rik Verbrugghe, sports director of the Israel start-Up Nation.
