Patrícia Ortega, new sports manager of la reVolta

November 4 th 2022 - 12:00

Once the International Cycling Union (UCI) has made official the promotion of the reVolta to UCI 1.1 category, which will involve a larger and higher level of participation than in previous editions, the reVolta reinforces its organisational team with the incorporation of the rider Patri Ortega as new sports manager of the race.

Patrícia Ortega (Vallirana,15-09-1988) has been a rider of the Sopela Women's Team this season and from 2019 to 2021 she was with the Catalan Team Massi Tactic Women's Team. In the last Spanish Championships, she finished sixth after a difficult start of the season, and the previous year she was ITT Champion of Catalonia, Elite Champion of the Spanish Cup and obtained the first international podium of the Catalan Massi Tactic Team in the Czech Republic, among others.

Ortega has also participated in the two previous editions of the reVolta, and therefore knows perfectly the race and its potential in the sporting area and in the care and management of the participating teams.

"I am very excited about this project. I have to admit that it will be hard not to participate as a rider in this historic race for women's cycling at home, but I am sure that I will enjoy it as much or even more participating with the organisation. I hope that more and more, the reVolta will find the necessary support to grow and become a stage race in the future", said Patrícia Ortega.

"It is a great news to incorporate a person like Patri Ortega into the organisational team of the reVolta, who has seen the race grow from the inside and who will be able to contribute with her knowledge of women's cycling. Having her experience will make us add a better and greater participation, as well as an increase in the quality of the race", said the general director of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya Associació Esportiva, Rubèn Peris, organiser of the reVolta.

Among her functions, Ortega will supervise and advise on the route of the race, which in 2023 will increase in mileage and difficulty to make it more attractive for the international teams, and will be the liaison with the teams and riders to experience an edition with the best possible sporting participation, with the confirmed presence of UCI WorldTeams and UCI Continental Teams. The rider will combine these functions with her cycling activity for the 2023 season.

The 4th edition of the reVolta will be held on 30 April 2023, starting and finishing in the city of Sant Cugat, which for the third consecutive year is committed to women's cycling. The officialization by the UCI as a category 1.1 race, shows the rise of a reVolta that will be looking for a new winner after the victories of the German Cofidis rider Clara Koppenburg and the Norwegian Movistar rider Katrine Aalerud.
