The "Volta" 2020 begins preparations for the centenary edition

June 14 th 2019 - 12:17

The centenary edition of the Volta Ciclista a Catalunya, on 2020, will be a special and commemorative edition, since only the Tour de France (105 editions) and the Giro d'Italia (102 editions) have reached this number.

After the composition of the city councils resulting from the last municipal elections, the "Volta" will start now to define its route for this 100th edition, which is currently fully open.

In the sports side, apart from continuing to design an attractive route for the best stars of the bunch, one of the objectives for the organization is to organize an individual time trial. An ITT would give even more spectacle and diversity to the Catalan race.

Apart from the prologues made in Lloret de Mar (2008 - 2009 - 2010), the last time an individual time trial was held was in 2007, a 17.1km chronoscale between Sornàs and Vallnord Arcalís, in Andorra, where Russian Denis Menchov won.

Even so, in 2017 it was the last time that a time trial was held, but in this case by teams (TTT) and with start and finish in the town of Banyoles, with a BMC victory.

Another of the sporting objectives of the organization is to make all the possible efforts to recover the "reVolta", the feminine race of the "Volta" that began in 2018 with great success, but that this 2019 could not celebrate the second edition due to incompatibility with the calendar.

At a more institutional level, the "Volta" also prepares numerous activities to celebrate the centenary of editions. A documentary of the history of the race  and a commemorative book are also scheduled to be released during 2020.
